Show transcript
00:00
Brother. Have you seen the Menendez Brothers show on Netflix?
00:03
No dude. Like I wasn't talking about it though.
00:05
Yeah, even my parents are like me.
00:07
Have you seen it?
00:07
Because they grew up with it?
00:09
You know what I mean?
00:09
They grew up with that.
00:11
It's so good brother.
00:13
It's crazy how these high profile murders are getting turned into shows
00:17
No dude for real.
00:18
But you know what the most on Netflix they'd be like,
00:20
oh who died. Let's do a documentary.
00:22
It's works, it works while all the attention the show has
00:30
received actually is helping the brothers case.
00:34
So here's the details of the case.
00:37
So Lyle and Eric Menendez were convicted for the brutal murder of
00:41
their parents, Jose and Kitty Menendez on August 20th of 1989
00:47
in their Beverly Hills mansion.
00:50
Yep. Ok. So I didn't even know the story.
00:52
So this is a good,
00:53
good breakdown for me.
00:54
Thank you. Yeah,
00:55
of course. I'm going to keep going on.
00:57
The dad. Jose Menendez was shot in the back of the
01:01
head and Katie, the mom was shot multiple times while trying
01:04
to flee. Both were killed with shotguns.
01:08
Damn, the brothers initially told police they discovered their parents' bodies
01:13
after returning from the movies.
01:15
However, their crazy spendings after the deaths was a major red
01:21
flag. So they were spending spending gas,
01:25
gas and maybe it was a retail therapy or something.
01:27
But like that's crazy therapy.
01:29
I mean, you could call it that.
01:31
I mean, I don't know,
01:32
this is weird but like,
01:33
yeah. Ok. Sorry continue.
01:34
So the case turned when Eric Menendez confessed to the murders
01:38
during a session with his psychologist whose tapes were later used as
01:44
evidence. Then during their trial,
01:48
the brothers admitted to the murders but claimed they acted in self
01:52
defense after years of sexual emotional and physical abuse by their father
01:59
And they also claimed that their mother enabled the abuse.
02:04
Yeah, that's crazy because again,
02:06
I've only heard that they killed their parents.
02:07
That's all I ever Yeah,
02:09
this show is kind of shining light on the actual details of
02:12
it. Both sides.
02:14
Yeah. So their first trials ended in hung juries with the
02:17
defense focusing on the abuse claims and the jury was split on
02:22
whether the killings were premeditated murder or self defense.
02:26
So in the second trial,
02:28
the judge disallowed much of the defense's abuse claims and the brothers
02:32
were convicted of first degree murder and sentenced to life in prison
02:37
without the possibility of parole.
02:39
This whole breakdown kind of reminds me that one show was it
02:42
based on the actual thing too with the gypsy rose,
02:45
like her mom was kind of like abusing,
02:47
right? And then she killed her in self defense because she
02:52
gets like, I got to get out of this freaking lifestyle
02:54
And you know,
02:57
yeah, it's very similar.
02:58
And now because of the show L A County D A George
03:01
Gascon spoke to Newsweek about potential new evidence in the Menendez brothers
03:06
case which may reopen their path to justice.
03:09
And Kim K is hopping on the bandwagon too.
03:12
She's speaking on their behalf and saying that,
03:15
you know, because of all the abuse and all this new
03:18
evidence, she's saying that they're not the monsters that they paint
03:21
them to be. I don't know,
03:23
dude, like if,
03:24
if, I mean,
03:25
it was self defense and what are they going to say about
03:30
the parents? Right?
03:31
I don't blame them.
03:32
I mean, what would you do?
03:34
Can you imagine like the mom wants things to stop and then
03:38
it's like that's the only way it's going to stop and then
03:40
the man is powerful.
03:41
The dad was powerful.
03:42
He's rich, rich.
03:45
Yeah. So I mean,
03:46
I'm not justifying it,
03:48
but I mean, I can see why the Menendez brothers did
03:51
what they did. Yeah,
03:54
but it'll be interesting.
03:54
I mean, again,
03:55
we'll see if Netflix comes out with the documentary after the case
03:58
I don't know who knows.
03:59
They might open it back up.
04:00
So
