Show transcript
00:06
Welcome back to me two daily.
00:07
I'm Alejandro and I'm Jenny and it's Friday.
00:09
So let's get to our first story.
00:12
Will Smith is toxic but not in the way you think Estos
00:17
Condos, brother director Barry Sonnenfeld shared a story from the Making
00:23
of Men In Black.
00:24
One of my favorites revealing that Smith's farts were so insane that
00:30
they had to clear the scent.
00:32
They had to clear the set,
00:33
leaving the cast and crew to take a three hour break.
00:36
His fumes were just like,
00:40
that's horrible. Dude.
00:47
Talk about shark tales.
00:51
Get it. Have you had a shirt tail?
00:53
It's not about me.
00:54
But yes, I have,
00:55
I can we go at the end?
01:00
You know what? You should have used that little like I
01:07
probably did that already.
01:08
Yeah. No, he should have used that little for men
01:12
in black to forget.
01:14
That's so true. Do you understand how bad that fart must
01:20
have been? Like for them to clear out for three hours
01:24
Have a three hour break,
01:26
like three hours in a movie.
01:27
It costs so much money.
01:29
That's like three hour break was needed to get the room breathable
01:32
again. That's wild.
01:34
I turn on the fans because for it to linger that long
01:39
that's a heavy ass fart like,
01:40
you know, like it just feels like musty.
01:45
Yeah. Well, at least he's not assaulting anyone physically.
01:49
That's true, you know.
01:50
Yeah, the, the fart you can't get those hands but
01:53
you can get that.
01:53
Yeah, it hit you like that.
01:55
He literally said, keep my farts name out your fucking mouth
02:01
Going back, not this capacity,
02:03
going back to the shark tale.
02:05
Let's hear it. It was a summer break in Mexico.
02:13
You know, grandma's house are just creepy.
02:15
There's a little time where grandma's house are just creepy,
02:19
right? And it was like so that being said,
02:21
my cousin and I never slept upstairs because they had a big
02:24
ass cross that we were like we're not sleeping here because Jesus
02:27
is looking at us 2470 I thought because it would like flip
02:30
in the middle of the night.
02:31
You were scared of it.
02:31
Flipping. It does look creepy because it's like,
02:34
you know, at night that's a huge human size.
02:41
And his point is that we sleep downstairs and then one time
02:44
there was a thunderstorm and I was like,
02:46
bro, my shit be hurting like I have to go upstairs
02:50
because there's no bathroom downstairs,
02:51
you know, so I go up the stairs,
02:53
big thunder pass and I'm already happy up the stairs like I'm
02:58
clenching so hard holding up for deep.
02:59
But you know and madre I shit my shorts.
03:04
I keep walking up the stairs.
03:06
I just like I sit on the toilet but I don't know
03:08
why I was already out and so I just showered and then
03:14
I even remember just grabbing a towel and just like sleeping with
03:17
a towel on. Like I'm not going to freaking get dressed
03:21
That's a shitty situation.
03:23
What about yours, Jenny?
03:25
Yeah. You said you have a shark tail.
03:27
What's your shark tail?
03:28
Girls don't take poops.
03:32
They start fine. I was at Ross.
03:42
Ross. Oh my God.
03:45
Who was it? Ross.
03:47
And I didn't know like I was,
03:50
I was smelling the candles and in the candle section and I
03:55
had to go and I was like,
03:56
oh shoot, I don't know what I ate that.
03:58
It came out quick.
04:00
You smell the candle make sharp.
04:03
I didn't make it to the restroom,
04:04
brother. Oh no.
04:07
And then at Ross and they don't even have restrooms.
04:09
That's what I'm saying.
04:10
The code for their employer.
04:12
That's what I'm saying,
04:13
brother. I didn't even know where the restroom was.
04:15
I had to still ask the employee like and then you're like
04:20
oh my God,
04:21
I thought you say you shot it in the candle thing for
04:24
some reason. But ok,
04:25
well, there you go guys.
04:26
Shark tales only on me too.
04:28
Daily. Sister. Do you remember when the country was going
04:30
crazy over toilet paper and other everyday items during COVID?
04:34
Oh Yeah, brother,
04:35
I remember that we were fighting for our lives at supermarkets.
04:39
Pretty sure I shoved a couple people up.
04:41
Ralphs, bro. You're getting intense.
04:44
You're one of those,
04:45
not one of those,
04:47
not one of those.
04:48
When things are scarce you start to do crazy stuff.
04:51
Baby wipes, the baby wipes to the babies.
04:55
Can you imagine the babies without baby wipes?
04:57
Yeah, because the toilet paper was out.
04:58
So the baby wipes were out too.
05:01
I'm like, well sister get ready because you might be doing
05:04
some more shoving. 45,000 port workers from New England to Texas
05:10
went on strike just after midnight on Tuesday.
05:13
Rallying for higher pay and more job security.
05:17
Does that affect us?
05:19
I'm gonna get to that and don't be scared.
05:21
It's ok. Deep breaths,
05:23
no shoving yet. But look the il A is demanding wage
05:27
hikes and a complete ban on the use of automated cranes,
05:29
gates and container moving trucks and unloading or loading freight.
05:34
So there's a strike going on crazy.
05:37
Those robots, brother machines don't feed families.
05:40
And this is a really big deal like horrible timing too.
05:45
Like the holidays are right around the corner.
05:47
I already got an email saying my packages are probably going to
05:50
be late. Yeah,
05:51
I mean shit's gonna hit the fan because President Biden said he
05:54
wouldn't interfere with a strike even though there's a law that manufacturer
05:58
retailers are urging him to invoke called the Taft Hartley Act which
06:03
authorizes the president to seek a court order for an 80 day
06:06
cooling off period for companies and unions to try and resolve their
06:09
differences. So, so he's like,
06:12
he's like, but you know what's crazy is that like,
06:17
I kind of see this already happening because my local like Instagram
06:20
page that posts all the cheese me.
06:21
They're like, hey guys,
06:22
look, Costco's out of toilet paper now.
06:24
And so I'm like,
06:26
shit, they need to figure this out ASAP because they keep
06:33
our country like running,
06:34
you know, and nobody wants to go back to fighting at
06:36
Costco. No, I don't like,
06:39
I don't want to throw hands with some lady for like I'm
06:42
not going to lie though like a little intense Costco trip.
06:44
It's already a little madness going on.
06:47
Brother is right there in the aisles.
06:48
They're just looking and it's like,
06:50
dude, freaking move out the way my dad,
06:52
my dad just, that's crazy.
06:55
There's too many, there's already tension at Costco brother.
06:57
I need more tension.
06:59
But anyways pay them guys,
07:01
pay them, hold on to your diapers.
07:04
A new report says that Paramount has Green lit.
07:06
A live action CG I hybrid adaptation of the classic Nickelodeon cartoon
07:11
Rugrats. Yeah. What,
07:15
what's wrong? Who asked for this?
07:18
You're one of those,
07:20
you're one of those.
07:20
No. Stop trying to make everything live action,
07:23
dude. Rugrats is untouchable,
07:26
but maybe this generation.
07:28
No brother. This generation isn't into Rugrats the same way.
07:32
We were brother but that's why it's sacred.
07:34
Rugrats is sacred. Leave this alone.
07:38
I get that. There are some CG I,
07:39
that's pretty cool. Some things are cool CG.
07:41
I, but Rugrats,
07:43
no, but they have the cool spin off.
07:46
Right. Like,,
07:49
all grown up, grown up.
07:51
This is CG I,
07:52
and you know what?
07:53
They already tried a full on CG.
07:55
I like Rugrats. Like,
07:57
back in what, 2021.
07:59
But it was, it was on Netflix.
08:01
It's like it was kind of hidden.
08:03
They put it out there for everybody,
08:05
you know. I don't know.
08:08
OK. But look,
08:08
it's AC G I hybrid.
08:10
So it's legit like real people but also CG I,
08:14
so it could be kind of cool like what was it?
08:16
I the chipmunks,
08:17
my mom loved that movie.
08:18
She like, you know,
08:22
and then Sonic the CG I hybrid though and then they're
08:27
gonna look all scary looking.
08:29
The kids are gonna look all freaking,
08:31
I don't know, like all creepy like it's going to get
08:33
cooked brother. I,
08:34
I already feel it in my bones.
08:35
And then Sonic, you mentioned Sonic,
08:37
you remember when Sonic came out,
08:39
people were pissed, they're like,
08:41
what is this freak?
08:42
Like this guy looks like?
08:44
What did he look like?
08:45
I didn't even know what he was.
08:47
It was luckily they went back because they were like,
08:50
yo and they fixed it,
08:52
right? You know what Chucky's been through enough?
08:55
Like Chucky Finster has been through enough.
08:58
The least people can do is leave him the fuck alone,
09:01
do it. He has mommy issues out there trying to make
09:08
a look out of the,
09:11
on the paish one.
09:12
And you've got a little sister,
09:14
you're right. But still they need to leave his ass alone
09:19
Leave all the kids alone yet.
09:21
Are they still kids?
09:23
Why are they still kids?
09:25
I don't know. That's a whole another discussion.
09:28
We'll see what happens.
09:28
I mean our next guest found a fresh way to put a
09:33
spotlight on a classic New York institution.
09:37
The Bodega, she went viral with her creative shop cat series
09:42
Bringing some serious bodega love to the internet.
09:46
Please welcome to the show,
09:48
Michelle Adana. Thank you.
09:53
Thank you for having me.
09:55
Thank you for coming.
09:57
So girl, I can't get enough of your cat videos
09:59
like you just interviewing the bodega cats.
10:01
It's amazing. I heard there was a Juicy Bodega cat in
10:04
here. Let's go look for her.
10:06
Look at her right there.
10:08
She's a regal. What's her name?
10:11
OK. I love that.
10:13
They did say that I spice was a guard.
10:16
So sometimes she'd bring me 1st,
10:17
1st. She'd kill them.
10:19
Is the guy Puerto Rican.
10:20
She's Mexican. I love it.
10:23
It's so much fun.
10:24
I do that on a daily without a camera and miked up
10:27
I love talking to anyone who's in the bodega because there's
10:31
so much to learn from the people around us and it's all
10:35
community. It's all love.
10:36
It's so New York and I'm having a blast.
10:39
The internet is having a blast.
10:40
They love it. People really like cats,
10:43
period. I'm like,
10:44
ok, eat this up.
10:47
But yeah, it's all about the kitties.
10:49
It's all about community.
10:50
It's all about New York for sure.
10:52
Give the people what they want.
10:53
And I lived in New York for some time.
10:56
I lived there for a year but nobody ever explained the whole
10:59
cats in Bodegas thing for me.
11:01
Like, can you break it down for me?
11:03
Like, how is it a thing?
11:04
Yeah. I mean,
11:06
there's rats in New York and you need someone big boys and
11:11
you need someone to take care of them.
11:14
You just want to throw hands with them and scarf them down
11:17
and that's why you got a bodega cat.
11:19
Which hood do you think has the feistiest cats?
11:22
And are these cats like any of these cats?
11:24
Latino? Let me just say this.
11:26
We haven't gone to the Bronx or Washington Heights yet.
11:30
But I have a feeling that the feistiest cats are going to
11:33
be right there. No shade,
11:34
so much respect, so much respect.
11:37
And a lot of cats are Puerto Rican.
11:39
So, really? And how can you tell?
11:42
I just, you know,
11:43
they'd be like, good morning,
11:45
you know, like the way,
11:47
the way they talk to me or whatever it is.
11:50
It's just they got a little Sazon to them.
11:52
But it depends on the bodega,
11:54
but a lot of cats are Dominican or Puerto Rican.
11:56
Hey, girl, I love that.
12:00
I know what you say is the coolest cat you've run into
12:03
in the interview. Ok.
12:05
We just had this video go up.
12:08
The cat's name is Simco.
12:10
It is the manager of a brewery.
12:13
Look at her, look at her over there sleeping on the
12:16
job. Little kitties.
12:19
That's me. When someone tried to wake me up for real
12:22
Simco, she's a very special girl.
12:24
We got her six years ago.
12:26
They have merch of the cat.
12:29
The cat, one of the managers has a tattoo of the
12:32
cat. Oh, shoot.
12:33
People have made earrings featuring the cat.
12:37
Really? So that I was like this cat is love.
12:40
Damn. You have a better house than I do.
12:42
Oh Snap. Yeah,
12:44
that has been the coolest cat.
12:45
It was amazing how much everyone knew who the cat was.
12:49
That is. So shout out to you Simco.
12:51
Dang. Oh Damn.
12:53
That's so cool. Like I'm excited to watch the more episodes
12:57
that come out and what,
12:58
what's something that, that we can expect?
13:01
Like later on I think just accept us having fun,
13:05
you know, just really having fun,
13:07
making sure these cats are loved.
13:09
This is so is very much the beginning.
13:12
You know, we're all looking at this like shop cats is
13:16
a combination of MTV Cribs and Steve Irwin.
13:21
I could see that I could see that I'm about to go
13:26
find some more kitties.
13:27
I'm really hoping that shop cats really helps people slow down a
13:32
little bit and chat with the people making their sandwiches,
13:35
chat with the people around their bodega and in their community because
13:38
I know New Yorkers have a bad reputation of being like,
13:43
you know, a little salty,
13:44
a little blunt, you know what?
13:45
It's crazy because I do hear that people are like,
13:48
oh, don't look at people in the eye,
13:51
like, don't like this and this and that.
13:52
And honestly they're some of the friendliest people like I would,
13:55
I was lost, you know,
13:57
I was like, oh,
13:57
where do I go?
13:58
This person saw that my head was just going like this and
14:01
then they came up to you.
14:02
Are you lost? And I'm like,
14:03
yeah, I'm lost and they helped me like I would say
14:06
New Yorkers, I mean,
14:06
don't look at anyone in the eye.
14:08
That is true, don't do that.
14:10
But yeah, exactly.
14:12
But the thing is like New Yorkers,
14:14
we're not mean we're just running,
14:16
running late. And I really want people to see this as
14:20
a chance to go into their own communities and tap into the
14:24
bodega cat and ask their bodega man a little questions about him
14:28
What's his birthday?
14:29
What time is he,
14:30
you know, like,
14:30
what's his favorite color?
14:31
And that's all community.
14:34
That's the beauty of Bodegas.
14:36
I think that's where the beauty lies in the people,
14:38
the community in there and you're just talking,
14:40
that's New York. It's all about just talking to everybody.
14:43
So it's really, really nice.
14:44
But thank you so much that thank you.
14:50
And where can people follow you and the show?
14:52
So you can follow me,
14:54
Michel A Donna M IC.
14:56
Hell ad onn A honey Michelle Donna.
14:59
I mean you can follow me on Instagram,
15:01
tiktok and Shop Cat is shop cats show on tiktok and Instagram
15:07
So definitely check us out there.
15:08
And yeah, listening to my podcast Bodega chat as well.
15:12
We talk mad stuff about Bodegas as well in New York City
15:16
and a variety of items.
15:18
But yeah, definitely tune into the show and let's see where
15:21
we go next. Yeah,
15:22
awesome. Give it up.
15:28
October 3rd is Latina Equal Pay Day and to celebrate,
15:31
we have Joanna Gonzalez,
15:33
financial educator, author and content creator to help empower us vouch
15:38
for ourselves and our finances.
15:40
Welcome, Joanna. Thanks Daniela.
15:43
Thank you for having me.
15:44
Me too. Of course,
15:45
we're so happy to be speaking with you today.
15:48
So for those who don't know what is Latina Equal Pay Day
15:52
when did it start?
15:53
It started in 1996.
15:55
And just to note it is not a celebration.
15:58
It actually acknowledges the approximate day when Latinas earn the same as
16:03
white non Hispanic men made the previous year.
16:06
So essentially, it takes us almost two years to earn just
16:10
as much as our white male counterparts.
16:12
Did? You're right.
16:14
I'm not celebrating that.
16:15
Nope. So I feel like it's super ingrained in our culture
16:20
to kind of be grateful for what we have.
16:23
And like working somewhere is,
16:26
is a blessing. How can we protect ourselves from this mentality
16:30
Financially and emotionally?
16:34
That one is tough.
16:35
And I think first,
16:37
it's important to acknowledge that those are our cultural values.
16:42
But if you want to advance in corporate America,
16:45
it's important to understand that that cultural value is not respected in
16:50
corporate America. The value that is in high regard is when
16:53
people self advocate, when people speak up and are able to
16:56
say the work that I'm doing is tying back to these business
16:59
goals. Therefore, I am valuable to this company and I
17:02
deserve more money. So you can be grateful and you can
17:06
also aspire for more.
17:07
They're not mutually exclusive.
17:09
What advice would you give a Latina who is maybe scared to
17:12
negotiate her salary or her pay or compensation?
17:16
First, I think it's important that we need to acknowledge that
17:20
it is scary to do things for a first time,
17:23
especially if we weren't taught to do it,
17:24
right. So the best way to get comfortable negotiating your salary
17:29
would be if you're taught by somebody who has been there before
17:32
like a mentor who can teach you the ropes.
17:35
If you don't have a mentor,
17:37
I love linkedin as a platform where you can build your professional
17:40
network and possibly connect with the mentor there.
17:43
You can also follow thought leaders that talk about the specific topic
17:46
about salary negotiation skills.
17:49
And they also have linkedin learning courses where you can actually learn
17:52
the skills needed to advocate for yourself in the workplace and ask
17:55
for a raise going off on that.
17:56
I also feel like discussing one salary kind of a taboo topic
18:01
Do you have any advice on how we can kind of
18:03
open up this conversation about money and,
18:06
and normalize it? Yes,
18:09
I do have one trick that I love to share with my
18:12
followers on my social media community and that is to get people
18:16
when they're exiting the company.
18:18
So if they're exiting on good terms because they are going to
18:22
a competitor or another company,
18:24
that's a great time to talk about their salary.
18:27
Sometimes when you work with them,
18:29
it might be too competitive,
18:30
but when they have 1 ft out the door,
18:32
they're like, oh,
18:32
who cares? I'm not going to work here anymore.
18:34
So the way that I like to approach the conversation,
18:37
especially with my male colleagues is by saying something like,
18:41
hey, you know,
18:43
in light of the Latina pay gap and to kind of reach
18:47
parody, are you open to having a discussion with me about
18:51
what your salary history has been with this company just so that
18:54
I can have more transparency about what's available with each role and
18:58
any time that I've tried that they have just like over,
19:01
shared over and this was my bonus this year and then I
19:05
got this raise the other year.
19:07
So it's not just like this is my current salary that I'm
19:09
leaving, but they will share the whole history and that can
19:12
be one way to get transparency around that and where can we
19:15
follow and keep up on social media?
19:17
I know you mentioned you're super connected with your online community.
19:22
Yeah, so I am on linkedin.
19:24
You can find me under my name Giovanna Gonzalez.
19:27
I am also on Instagram.
19:29
My handle there is Gigi the first gen mentor on tiktok.
19:33
The handle is the first gen mentor and you can also check
19:36
out my book at your local library,
19:38
your local bookstore. It's called Cultura in Cash lessons from the
19:41
first gen mentor for managing finances and cultural expectations.
19:45
It was endorsed by Eva Longoria,
19:47
Mira Ka and Cash.
19:51
I love that. That is,
19:53
that is bad ass,
19:53
excuse my language. Thank you.
19:57
Well, thank you so much.
19:58
This is such a powerful conversation.
20:00
So I really appreciate it.
20:03
It was so nice to meet you.
20:04
Thanks for having me,
20:04
Daniella. Thank you.
20:10
We're out here investigating what the dating scene in L A is
20:13
really like right now.
20:19
I gotta ask, what are your thoughts on dating in L
20:21
A right now? Yeah,
20:23
we were just talking about this.
20:25
We're having a conversation about dating in L A.
20:26
Ladies first. How many hours.
20:29
Do you have been a lot of fun?
20:31
L A has a little bit of a different rhythm.
20:33
Feel like people in L A are a little busier.
20:36
Way too much competition.
20:38
Very materialistic trash.
20:41
I think it's probably top three worst places to do it.
20:43
Either they are married or they have like three girlfriends.
20:47
Everybody is like superstitious here.
20:49
You know, there's always a famous person nearby.
20:51
Everyone is crazy. My thoughts on dating LL A is that
20:55
you shouldn't do it.
20:56
Don't do it, don't do it,
20:58
don't do it, don't do it.
21:01
You will. Your husband here,
21:03

21:06

21:07
Maybe Mexico that are like Rico,
21:10
you know, you know,
21:14
all the good ones have left.
21:15
Go to New York.
21:17
I just came back from New York and these Dominican men,
21:21
Dominican mad. Everyone out here is in La la land.
21:25
They have the Peter Pan syndrome.
21:27
We need them to grub up.
21:28
But I lean when they were little but like let go,
21:32
let go. It's OK.
21:33
They'll love bomb you,
21:34
they'll ghost you, they'll break your heart if you go through
21:36
her following and she's got like blue check marks.
21:39
It's game over. Like don't even try it.
21:40
Can't you just organically meet people connect unless you're bisexual you have
21:44
more to choose from.
21:45
That's why I'm still single.
21:47
My name is single,
21:47
Dave for a reason.
21:48
Single, single dare.
21:50
What's my nickname single,
21:51
Dave. Just be adults.
21:54
Just be communicative just like go ahead and just like be a
22:00
grown up, bro.
22:01
Kl A has the worst amputation and I am an optimist.
22:05
So I wanna be optimistic.
22:07
So I'm gonna say it's not that bad.
22:09
You should always look for somebody who lifts your spirit.
22:11
Right? L A has been nicer to me lately.
22:15
Oh, are you seeing someone Miss Chelsea Rental?
22:20
