Show transcript
00:00
I would never have imagined I would be here,
00:02
but here we are,
00:03
embracing life and forever grateful we lost 3 sisters.
00:10
Wait, wait, so I'm doing it right today we are
00:13
joined by Virginia Novello,
00:15
Marta Mendez Cross, Valeria Maldonado,
00:19
and Cristo Fernandez to talk about their new film La Stre Sisters
00:24
Let's give it up.
00:30
An. Very happy to be here.
00:36
Through the film we follow the journey of Lare sisters.
00:40
That that's OK. So how did the Tres sisters come all
00:49
together? It's her fault.
00:51
Yeah, we blame her.
00:53
We blame and we thank her.
00:55
Yeah, I,,
00:56
I had met Marta first through one of my mentors,
01:00
Dan Fosse.
01:01
We started writing a short film and.
01:03
was 8 months pregnant and we wanted her to direct.
01:07
She accepted to direct this when she was 8 months pregnant.
01:10
And so Sisters, the short films,
01:13
was then she directed and then it was easy
01:17
though to direct you to.
01:18
They're so talented. And then when it started as a short
01:23
film, then it became a feature,
01:24
you know, with so many people involved.
01:26
You gave birth to a baby and the and also my son
01:31
is 9 years old,
01:33
so and this journey has been 9 years.
01:35
So every birthday I,
01:36
you know, I have that kind of time code to go
01:39
off. That's crazy.
01:41
Cristo, how did you get involved with this whole project?
01:45
It all takes me back to 2021.
01:48
I was. With my sister Paloma in the festival of
01:52
Guadalajara and suddenly out of nowhere I hear five beautiful talented women
01:57
screaming, screaming, yelling,
02:00
and they,,
02:01
mention this amazing script.
02:04
I, I fell in love with the whole script and the
02:07
and the project because I wanted to shoot more things in my
02:10
hometown Guadalajara, Mexico,
02:12
but also it was an opportunity to discover as well.
02:15
Some beautiful magic towns we have in Jalisco.
02:17
There's so many messages of of our film.
02:20
One of them is that the journey itself is a miracle.
02:23
I needed you both here to walk abuela's pilgrimage.
02:28
Yeah, no, I'm sorry.
02:30
I need a miracle.
02:31
Well, you talked earlier,
02:33
Crystal too about Pueblo Mico.
02:36
What is a Pueblo?
02:37
Puebritoico means magic town,
02:40
so we. have in Mexico many magic towns,
02:44
so many that even myself as a Mexican born and raised in
02:48
Guadalajara, there's still so many magic towns I still need to
02:52
discover. My favorite one is Ayulita is a surf town,
02:56
but,,
02:57
yeah, Pablo's Mexicos,
02:58
that's the that's the translation definition,
03:01
and, and in our film,
03:03
the three sisters go on a journey on a pilgrimage
03:07
That is very well known in Mexico in Mexico throughout the
03:10
journey they discover,,
03:12
different magic towns. One thing I feel very proud of our
03:15
film is people watch our film,
03:18
they laugh, they cry,
03:19
they everything, but at the end they go like I need
03:21
to go to Mexico.
03:22
I need to go and discover those magic towns,
03:24
and we screen our film in London.
03:27
We were saying that there were not that many Latinos,
03:30
but they wanted desperately and Virginia.
03:32
Knows the story you can tell.
03:34
Yeah, there was a woman that came right after and
03:36
she said look what I did,
03:37
and she had just bought her ticket to Mexico and she's never
03:40
been and so she's like,
03:41
I need to go to these towns.
03:43
I never knew Mexico was this beautiful,
03:45
so we're all really,
03:46
really proud that we get to show that side of Mexico and
03:49
that people from all over the world get to appreciate and wanna
03:52
come and visit us because it's just such a beautiful,
03:55
a beautiful country. It really is and.
03:57
What's your favorite magic to tap rotas,
03:58
which we, I said it right.
03:59
Oh my God, because my character in the film is struggles
04:10
with Spanish and says laserta.
04:13
Sorry, I'm giving away the joke.
04:14
Is that OK? Go watch the film still February 21st.
04:18
OK, now going back to the film.
04:20

04:25

04:27
It's called Who's Most Likely to,
04:30
OK. Who's most likely to find the best club nearby?
04:38
In terms of the characters Virginia,
04:42
no, me too.
04:49
Who's most likely to sleep in and miss call times?
04:53
Oh, it's so easy.
04:56
She don't even put herself.
04:58
She's like, Are we talking about the real person or the
04:59
characters? The real sleep in until noon almost every day.
05:04
And I was like,
05:05
oh my God, we had a meeting who's most likely to
05:09

05:12
I mean it depends if it's rapping or singing.
05:16
Is it funny or is it like fun or is it corny
