Today, we welcome Ana Sheila Victorino and Cesar Camacho to talk
00:04
about their new queer Latino podcast.
00:10
And the podcast is called Las Pateras podcast that our queerness has
00:16
been the thing that's changed the most in ourselves.
00:20
But it's been the only constant thing,
00:22
you know what I mean?
00:23
And that's beautiful. Why we can be something like this like
00:26
Las Tale, tell us a little about yourselves and then the
00:31
podcast as well. I really just love doing work that helps
00:36
foster inclusion and belonging.
00:40
And so all my work just like revolves around that and this
00:42
is just the, the latest extension of that.
00:44
I am an actor and a writer.
00:46
I also work in marketing as my day job,
00:48
you know, trying to survive.
00:49
I based on radio show when I was younger too,
00:50
like in college, right out of college.
00:53
So I feel like coming back to this now with a different
00:55
mindset, more experiences was like a beautiful journey to be on
00:58
I love that,
00:59
especially because we've known each other for so long but not like
01:02
known, known each other like that deep.
01:04
And now we're getting to do it's like because I feel like
01:07
in the Latino community in L A,
01:08
especially like, you know,
01:09
so many people. And so now we're really getting to build
01:13
you know, we're becoming a little familia that's good.
01:15
And the chemistry I would imagine is really good,
01:17
right? When you guys are on the podcast es como flu
01:21
that's good. You know,
01:23
it was our host who's fucking amazing.
01:26
Y'all got to watch them.
01:28
We just wanted to have a lot of fun and we have
01:30
had a lot of fun like Cesar Mena and they were amazing
01:34
producers. Shout out to producer Joel and what inspired you guys
01:40
to start your podcast?
01:42
And what do you hope to achieve with it?
01:44
For me, I had a previous podcast called La Marin,
01:47
the podcast. They've actually been here as well and I love
01:51
I love being a part of that project.
01:52
I was part of that project for five years.
01:54
And I think what I really was wanting to create with this
01:57
creative project is I really wanted something that was a little more
02:01
oriented for the queer community.
02:03
Life is hard now in a lot of ways,
02:06
inflation. We've got wars and all the types of things going
02:09
on where people are not feeling as safe and protected in a
02:12
lot of ways. And we're feeling a lot of backlash in
02:15
that, in that way.
02:16
And so just creating more spaces of care and comfort and safety
02:21
felt really important to me.
02:22
But I'm joy. And that's the combination of things that I
02:25
feel like we're trying to bring to this podcast.
02:27
It's also a place for people that want to understand the community
02:30
as well to kind of get to know us,
02:32
our struggles, our joys,
02:33
what we're going through.
02:34
I mean, we laugh,
02:35
we've cried on the podcast.
02:36
I think we give good advice.
02:38
So I feel like it's like you get a little bit of
02:39
everything. What's the funniest or most unexpected reaction you got when
02:46
you came, when you came out to your family?
02:49
I told my brother and his first reaction and it was just
02:53
perfect. I was like,
02:54
oh, this is so perfect.
02:55
He said, so you think you can get more girls than
02:57
me or what? You're like?
03:00
Yeah, I can pull them.
03:03
I'm pretty sure he has that ever happened with you and your
03:08
brother though? We had that has not happened because he's been
03:13
with the same girl his whole life.
03:16
But I did have one time with a good friend where he
03:19
was like, oh yeah,
03:20
I'm talking to this new girl.
03:21
It was a guy and he,
03:23
and he shows me the picture and I was like,
03:25
oh, I matched with her on hinge and then he sends
03:31
a picture to the girl of us together.
03:34
Oh, that's funny.
03:37
And if you could create a coming out survival kit for Latino
03:41
families, what three items would you include?
03:46
Holy water, a candle out of a Beyonce.
03:53
Well, I mean,
03:53
I think one thing is for sure having items that are comforting
03:58
You're a comfort person.
04:00
Someone that is just so loving comfort person,
04:03
a comfort item. What's something that always makes you feel safe
04:11
Well, I guess we need a TV guide Las Pale
04:13
podcast. Yes. For parents to understand us and then for
04:19
other queers to feel identified.
04:21
Oh, man. Well,
04:22
thank you guys so much for joining us today.
04:24
Can we give them a round of applause?
04:28
Thank you so much for having years,
04:30
of course. And where can people watch or where can people
04:34
listen to your podcast?
04:35
You can listen everywhere.
04:37
So, on Spotify,
04:38
Apple Podcast, we also have a youtube channel because we are
04:42
live. So and oh no,
04:46
no, no. I mean,
04:48
like the episode and also on video which is actually new for
04:53
me, which is just beautiful,
04:54
having a real set and the set is beautiful again.
04:57
Shout out to producer Joel.
04:58
It looks so cool.
04:59
I saw it. I'm like,
05:00
damn, that's a word that's really dope on Sonora,
05:03
on Instagram, on tiktok,
05:05
Facebook, a Las Palera podcast.
05:09
Awesome guys. Let's keep up.
