00:06
That one and a honey by Mariah Carey.
00:08
All right, well I got to sign that we're live.
00:13
Sorry that I peed on the mic.
00:14
Sorry guys, we are live,
00:16
guys. Welcome back to Me through Daily.
00:18
Thank you guys so much for joining us.
00:20
I'm Jenny and I'm Alejandro and yo,
00:22
it's kind of hot in here.
00:23
My hands are sweaty,
00:25
I don't like this in LA now like spray on deodorants,
00:31
not it. You gotta reapply every hour whatever Dove does the
00:35
job like whatever I'm using right now,
00:37
it, it, it ain't you using right now it's not
00:40
What do you dove lavender Dove lavender.
00:43
I smell like a grandma for like 30 minutes and then whatever
00:46
mixes in with what I got going on,
00:50
Oh well, I heard you have to switch your deodorant out
00:52
every is it like a few months because you get used to
00:54
every quarter because then your body,
00:56
you know, kind of like adjusts to it.
00:58
It's like bet you like bet I got you and it makes
01:00
your ass stinky and then so you have to like trick it
01:03
bitch, like you know I don't know if I'm spraying it
01:05
too far away or I need to get closer.
01:07
Well, apparently Tasecalor and Londres.
01:10
Oh dang, I forgot that Jack just commented Pinche and really
01:15
it's over there too,
01:16
yeah, yo, and they don't have AC right in the
01:18
houses and stuff, some flats,
01:20
right? Yeah, they don't got shit yo,
01:21
why is this thing not show the live?
01:23
Sorry, I'm trying to see the comments.
01:25
OK. I'm trying to see it on the on the laptop
01:28
I know, but I'm trying to see it on the
01:29
laptop. Oh shit it's a little a browser,
01:33
bro. It's it's been said Gru Gruogle,
01:36
Google Chrome blooming, you know how much does that cost?
01:39
OK because I've been seeing some like deodorants that cost $10 for
01:42
the stick. I'm like,
01:43
bro, I get the bundle.
01:44
If it's 2 sticks for like $7 I'm happy.
01:47
If it sucks, that's a whole another story.
01:53
I, anyways, I'll just do this Frio and Seattle.
01:57
Oh, Seattle in the house,
01:59
you know, rainy days there we go.
02:06
Alright, well thank you guys so much for joining us again
02:10
It is Wednesday, bro,
02:12
dude, this week is going by slow.
02:15
I don't know, it's half a week too.
02:16
We're off tomorrow, one day,
02:18
yeah. But what what do we have in the what
02:22
what's going on? Well,
02:23
look guys, here we go again because,
02:25
so look, in case you guys didn't hear New York City
02:27
Comptroller Brad Lander was detained at an immigration hearing,
02:30
right? He was helping escort an immigrant from court when ICE
02:34
agent so he just grabbed him.
02:36
So his homeowner was caught on video.
02:37
I know we can play it sparking outrage and viral reactions online
02:41
right, understandably so mind you,
02:42
this isn't a courthouse.
02:42
Like I don't know how shit like this goes down like the
02:50
hallway like this feels like the whole,
02:53
you know, with San Padilla last week,
02:56
hey, we're in like where's the grab whoever.
02:59
Because,, so just so you guys know,
03:02
later the same day with no charges filed,
03:05
but top politicians, you know,
03:06
including the governor of New York,
03:08
Hoko and AOC called the arrest shocking and unlawful,
03:12
but unfortunately these random arrests like this and this kind of bombardments
03:18
aren't, it just keeps happening,
03:24
Oh, someone said they got the they are at target by
03:27
so I get the deodorant there,
03:30
It, it keeps happening too often.
03:32
I know you guys were talking about something in Pico recently at
03:35
the Walmart parking lot,
03:39
like I think two guys that worked there,
03:43
young, I, I don't know if they're kids,
03:48
It's just crazy because the video like they're recording the whole time
03:52
and it's it was so like it was so aggressive you know
03:57
like it was just so aggress unnecessary and it's just ice ice
04:02
just coming in and and supposedly they have a quota.
04:07
I don't know. I mean,
04:08
I, I wouldn't doubt it's like,
04:10
yeah, so if I'm not wrong,
04:13
Steven Miller or is it Steven Miller?
04:15
Yeah, Stephen Miller,
04:16
who is the very like he's in charge.
04:20
I don't know his official title,
04:21
but he announced that they have a quota of 3000 detainees per
04:27
week or is it per day,
04:33
so there it yes it is.
04:35
I mean it's also I'm going as far as to say some
04:38
sort of a business model,
04:40
I mean you're gonna we're gonna start seeing headlines coming
04:43
out of how much money is actually currently being lost by this
04:47
department ICE because a lot of it takes a lot of
04:50
money to conduct it all and try to you know get these
04:53
numbers., and if they're detaining US citizens,
04:58
well, that comes with consequences.
05:01
am I gonna have to start rolling with my passport?
05:04
I mean, people are saying you should be doing that now
05:05
I need my passport now just in case I get stopped
05:09
I can't get more citizen than this.
05:11
Honestly, you probably do like let's be real as we see
05:16
this happening more and more elected.
05:18
Officials if you're Latino in this country like it is whether you're
05:22
a citizen or not protect yourself you never know who you're gonna
05:26
come you know to confront and and with how things are
05:33
going these days it's not an overreaction to be carrying your passport
05:37
or your ID or a picture of your birth certificate because if
05:41
that's what it takes to keep us safer.
05:46
Yeah, and so people are saying in the comments,
05:49
the confusion and chaos is the point.
05:51
It's like I feel like we all feel the same way.
05:52
They always, there's a lot of distractions sometimes and so it's
05:55
like we just kind of start talking about that and then there's
05:57
other stuff in the works,
05:58
so I, I definitely get that.
06:00
If senators, mayors,
06:01
and judges are being arrested,
06:02
something is wrong. Facts.
06:05
last week with Senator Padilla we just comosinad is like,
06:09
we're gonna, you know,
06:10
cuff you and he works there.
06:13
He's probably, he got arrested by people that probably see him
06:16
every day or arrested by the people that escorted him in.
06:20
That's like just aggression,
06:22
unnecessary,, but I mean we'll be monitoring this closely
06:30
We try our best to keep everybody informed and updated
06:33
on everything that's going on.
06:34
And especially because it is impacting so many Latinos within our community
06:40
this is a harsh transition to a different topic
06:43
but a lot of us Latinas are big Caro G fans
06:47
and on a lighter note Caro G is releasing a new album
06:51
this Friday, June 20th.
06:54
The album's name is Tropicoqueta.
06:56
Have you guys, have you guys seen anything about it or
06:59
am I? Am I breaking the news right now?
07:01
Yeah, I saw the telenovela,
07:04
video. She did her thing.
07:06
I like it. I like the.
07:08
That's my favorite. That's my favorite,
07:11
So she tapped into the right,
07:17
oh wait, isn't that the other one too.
07:22
the other girl by the by the chimney?
07:23
What's her name? That's a,
07:25
that's a no and that's my that's from,
07:40
I love the idea of all all these big celebrities coming together
07:45
and just like let's do a telenovelastilo commoloierron and it's la ipoca
07:50
del furori buenoa sing and I mean my my abuelita toya conus
07:59
Yeah, but like let's reclaim the narrative.
08:02
Let's normalize this again,
08:06
so basically the album is 20 songs including collaborations with Marco Antonio
08:14
Solis, El By Ose Carol G featuring Marco Antonio Solis and
08:21
that's kind of. Legendary and I know there was some,
08:26
you know, sentiment because Carl G didn't mention Las Mexicanas on
08:31
her song Latina Forever,
08:33
but they get Marco Antonio Saliz on the album.
08:40
He's he's goaded he's a legend,
08:43
and I think, I think it's going to be a classic
08:45
song. There's already some thoughts here,
08:48
so I'll, I'll swing it up for you.
08:50
Don't worry. Don't read the comments.
08:53
You don't they hating me?
08:57
that's a different one,
08:57
sorry. The comedy que Cardo Carlo G did with the rest
09:00
of us was hilarious,
09:01
a superorra but quevino not hating at all,
09:05
but it doesn't look appealing this upcoming album,
09:09
but hey, never judge a book by its cover.
09:12
Or It looks appealing to me because I'm a Colombian and I
09:17
know that she's going to be honoring her Colombian roots through this
09:21
album,, so that for me is very exciting and
09:26
and going back to the tropical Caribbean genre that I think doesn't
09:32
just exist in Colombia it actually comes from very different countries and
09:37
it exists amongst all of them.
09:41
here's the T. Track 13 is left blank fueling speculation of
09:49
but I just got word that if you Google the word or
09:52
the name Carl G on Google,
09:54
like, actually, can we try right now?
09:56
What are the chances it's on one?
09:57
Wait, so you go on Google and what?
09:59
What are the. What are the chances it's not,
10:03
I became a fan of Karo G through Anu.
10:06
So you're saying when when the whole Bebeita era and what was
10:09
the song called Paless such a good song.
10:11
Secretoreto's a great song.
10:13
Listen, but Anuel no chow.
10:18
So you're an Anuel fan.
10:21
Yeah. That's rough to say.
10:25
your whole, your homegirls flow,
10:28
you're saying it came from Manuel the whole,
10:32
the whole narrative of getting cheated on and ah,
10:34
the album la, you know,
10:36
I don't know the whole bihota,
10:38
so you're saying she didn't get cheated on,
10:40
she wouldn't be this big because it wouldn't have inspired her music
10:42
and. So I put her on,
10:48
I highly disagree with everything he said.
10:51
The man cheated and she took her own autonomy,
10:54
walked out the door,
10:55
left him behind what she had to do to heal and her
10:59
process. She wrote an album that broke historical records not
11:06
not just in Latin America,
11:08
I saw the doc on Netflix.
11:11
I didn't know she was that big.
11:13
K Kato G is genuinely like Taylor Swift.
11:16
Listen, I'm not a swifty.
11:18
A breakup changes you for the better.
11:21
What's the Google thing?
11:22
I'm trying to do this.
11:24
Let's try. Let's see who's on track 13.
11:26
Let's Google Carl G.
11:29
this little flower came up,
11:31
but then he's like question marks keep coming so the little flower
11:34
like a drum roll press it again.
11:36
I did watch the documenting 44 letters.
11:58
Where is the four letters F I E D and it's a
11:58
green. It's green A N U E L.
12:00
I'm colorblind an extra letter.
12:09
Listen, I just hope they can be friends one day.
12:11
I, I just would like to acknowledge I wanna see I
12:13
wanna hear, but I get it.
12:15
I get up. I get your,
12:16
I get what you're saying.
12:18
does change you, but,
12:20
I, I feel like she's always had it in her,
12:21
but that was the fuel to the fire.
12:24
I'll credit my to the fire for giving me the.
12:28
like it was a healing my ex got me got me the
12:30
but like I'm so glad it didn't you be having this
12:30
It was the healing my healing,
12:41
and you know what healing is moving on from defending A and
12:49
you can enjoy their past music but like yeah there's a hashtag
12:53
started because of you,
12:54
bro has cancel Jean.
12:58
Jean. Where's my fans,
13:00
bro? She got her own production company,
13:05
Bic Records or what?
13:06
Bichota Records already existed,
13:08
so she actually owns her music.
13:10
I mean, she's signed to Interscope,
13:11
but she owns everything that she produces,
13:18
yeah, the fans I just read earlier that.
13:19
I don't know. A lot of like copying Bad Bunny,
13:22
like now you're gonna bring that up.
13:22
I don't wanna over like I I saw a joke,
13:29
you know how Bad Bunny has noon.
13:32
She's gonna be singing about Washington DC like they were making fun
13:35
of her, but go on up the elephant.
13:37
In the room, Kato G did not copy Bad Bunny.
13:40
Kato G has been finished with this album since last July.
13:43
She wrote it long before and Bad Bunny,
13:46
you know, when he finished his album this December,
13:48
all of this, all of these tracks,
13:50
all of these music videos,
13:51
they've been done for a while,
13:53
so. Well, we'll see you tomorrow.
13:56
Oh no Friday. Also Carol G's been honoring her roots since
14:01
the start. You can look her up when she was 16
14:04
singing on Jorge Barron.
14:06
What's Jorge Baron? Ah yeah,
14:08
you can't argue with me.
14:09
Carro G didn't copy that.
14:11
Sorry, I didn't have Colombian network TV.
14:13
Well, you watched the documentary and that was,
14:16
the documentary was good.
14:18
I'll tell you, open my eyes.
14:19
I didn't know she was that big.
14:20
Well, Clipper Carlos is on your side.
14:27
Thank you brother. I like the comparison you did with the
14:34
yeah, so here's my because you said Taylor Taylor Swift fans
14:38
have Swifties. What are you guys called?
14:41
OK, I could see that.
14:43
And Mira, you said you were surprised in the documentary that
14:48
Caro G in my perspective,
14:50
is the Latina equivalent to what Taylor Swift is to white girls
14:54
or not just white girls,
14:55
but like. The world she's got the fans there except Karol
15:01
G embraces her sexuality and she's got that Latina identity and pride
15:06
and cultural pride and and I think that's very special.
15:12
I've seen the pictures of the drums and all that like I'm
15:15
excited, bro. I mean like she,
15:17
she's not big heads like I have a big head leader,
15:20
why you have to say team Big Head,
15:21
bro, to leave her head alone.
15:23
We both have 3 terabyte heads.
15:26
I feel like too it's telling times is right now it's,
15:30
it's, there's a lot going on,
15:32
but I feel like her album release too is I will to
15:35
look forward to, you know I mean it's like,
15:39
you know, like to lift our spirits Imira no so to
15:42
Latinos. We're all for the same cause,
15:44
right? So why are we putting these two against each other
15:47
Why are, why are we doing that?
15:49
Like, what, what was the reason?
15:51
Can we not just dance and enjoy the music?
15:53
Latinos? That's our favorite thing to do as Latino.
15:56
I'm not. You hear two musicians and you say one copy
16:00
the other. Mind you,
16:02
they they run their team,
16:04
they have the exact,
16:08
let's be real. They have the same team.
16:10
Look how many times I listened to her.
16:12
So you are a fan of Kyle G?
16:17
Yeah, look, she's here all day.
16:21
What's that? What's that show the cartoon Hey Arnold,
16:25
where they were like be like haters and stuff.
16:30
Helga, and like I like this comment.
16:32
Leave the hating for the Dodgers.
16:34
we're still on Dodger watch because they haven't said anything,
16:36
but Jorge Carin did,
16:37
so shout out to the GOA anyways,
16:39
next story. Who's got it?
16:41
Thank you for bringing that up,
16:42
Hugo, but I'm still not gonna be a Cubs fan.
16:47
guys. You guys know everything is tense in the Middle East
16:51
right? Like shit shit is going,
16:54
things are tense everywhere,
16:56
but., what if I told you that?
17:00
PISA can let us know if shit's really about to go down
17:05
Pisa like literally Pisa so if you guys don't know there's
17:11
And it literally keeps track of late night pieces ordered near
17:15
the Pentagon, so you already know they ordering late night,
17:19
it means shit is about to go down.
17:21
The Pentagon people, yeah,
17:23
look right here 9 p.m. look at that little spike got them
17:28
yeah, got them working late like yo,
17:29
we need to figure this shit out.
17:32
and apparently it's been around since the 80s.
17:34
Like a Domino owner noticed this trend.
17:38
why are the orders so high every time shit goes down and
17:41
it's because they're ordering Domino's before they make these calls.
17:45
yo, we need the what's,
17:46
what's the, what's the 555 shit?
17:49
What's the Domino's deal?
17:51
I haven't been backed in a while,
17:53
I remember, but you know them,
17:55
you know them $5 for large,
17:57
you know, so I guess he noticed he was like,
17:59
Yo, these orders are picking up.
18:00
Yo, it's hot and ready,
18:06
I guess it's the only thing around there,
18:08
you know, and it's like,
18:10
yo they've got the like Iran and all that and it's like
18:13
yo, the orders are picking up again they're staying there
18:16
longer because of what's going on.
18:19
Carlos said it perfectly.
18:20
They're prepping for an attack with a.
18:21
Pizza party. It's like what are you gonna do,
18:24
bro? It's like you gotta keep the morale up.
18:26
you know what I'm gonna caucus today,
18:27
no, don't go anywhere.
18:28
Hold on, we're getting pizzas right now.
18:29
They're coming, bro.
18:31
I know how you guys are when you're like,
18:32
oh, there's lunch coming in and like,
18:34
should we wait? And then we go and I'm like,
18:37
so it works everywhere.
18:40
and apparently the US denies the theory,
18:43
but come on, you know how we are online we got
18:45
detectives everywhere. Well,
18:46
yeah, speaking of that,
18:47
I talked to somebody over here.
18:52
we gotta, we're gonna keep an anonymous source,
18:55
so we have an anonymous source that's telling us that people are
18:57
catching on to this,
18:58
so. Very well informed anonymous source.
19:02
So trust source, trust me,
19:04
no I'm kidding, but,
19:05
no, so they're ordering actually different food things like so now
19:08
some Thai food or you know maybe Indian food.
19:11
I don't know, but like a crop,
19:13
but different cities that way it's like they don't throw them off
19:15
like oh obviously the pizza spot in DC,
19:17
a block from the freaking White House is gonna have a spike
19:20
but yo, Thai food like next zip code over.
19:24
No one knows a thing.
19:25
They throw them off a bit.
19:27
Why is this order coming in?
19:29
We're about to close.
19:30
Hey, someone said they're gonna use the Iraqi scheme again.
19:32
What's that? Where's my producer?
19:36
Hey yo, when you look at that Joe Rogan guy that
19:37
like looks up stuff,
19:38
Iraqi Iraqi scheme scheme.
19:43
that's crazy. So we know it's like the Pope.
19:46
the smoke is black stuff they're,
19:48
they're working on stuff in,
19:49
the pizza orders keep coming in.
19:51
They're working on something.
19:52
Yo, I just hope they.
19:54
I just hope they tipping,
19:56
you feel me like you got these people pulling up to the
19:59
Pentagon and shit. Like just make sure you're not tipping my
20:01
guys. Our tax dollars are going to pizza boxes.
20:07
pizza scared man. I'm scared,
20:08
low key. What's to come like?
20:11
I don't know I don't know yeah.
20:15
Pull it up Jamie see if someone gets it that's the guy
20:19
I appreciate that for once the Pentagon has chosen a fiscally responsible
20:23
meal. True, it could be it could be like.
20:26
They could be getting no boo every freaking day.
20:30
I don't know nobu kids but anyways.
20:35
Speaking of the Pope,
20:35
just gotta pray to God,
20:36
you know, you gotta pray to God that things are gonna
20:41
but the Pope, let's talk about the I have the worst
20:46
Sorry I tried anyways guys,
20:53
And the Pope Leo the 14th,
20:56
so he has some very famous distant relatives we just found out
21:00
I was like, no way he's related to Madonna.
21:06
And Justin Bieber, what,
21:10
he need the Pope right now.
21:11
So there's, so you heard y'all seen the videos.
21:14
What is that? I'm clocking you.
21:16
I'm clocking out setting on business or something.
21:18
How can you not clock Pope Leo tap in.
21:22
Your cousin is wilding out here.
21:24
Is it his nephew or are they real?
21:26
Oh, distant cousins.
21:29
Are they Latinos? Sorry,
21:31
it's very Latino like questions.
21:33
I have so many questions,
21:35
but I will answer them right now.
21:36
So, so the New York Times found that the Pope is
21:40
related to Louis Butcher,
21:44
the Grand Prix. Did I butcher that I think you shared
21:49
the Grand Prix. I don't know who is that?
21:52
he is a distant cousin of Madonna and Bieber,
21:56
so that's the tie in.
21:58
Oh, so the Pope is also related to Angel Angelina Jolie
22:05
and Hillary Clinton and Justin Trudeau through the Grand Prix.
22:12
Who was born in Quebec City of Trois Rivier.
22:18
This reminds me of when I go back to my parents' home
22:21
little Pueblito in Colombia,
22:22
and like I walk outside,
22:24
everyone's my cousin. Yeah,
22:25
like he used to carry you.
22:27
What's the reason? I don't know.
22:29
I didn't even know all those people were related.
22:32
Like it's like it's just I mean I think out of all
22:36
the primos Justin needs the most help.
22:41
yo, they just found out your cousins with the pope JB
22:44
tap it like don't crash out on live no more.
22:48
Call him. You think you'll be cool with them?
22:50
I will text. I was JB and I knew he was
22:53
my cousin. I text the Pope like,
22:55
Like, I wonder if he knows.
22:58
Well, I'm sure it's everywhere on the,
23:01
but it's just some correlation,
23:02
you know, just it's crazy.
23:04
What is it? Louis the Grand Prix,
23:08
but this fool died in 1809.
23:10
You're the same guy.
23:12
Mhm. I guess they did like the family tree and come
23:15
on, they did the whole molejos,
23:17
bro, like 10th generation.
23:19
I'd be saying that shit.
23:21
Sergio Checo Perez, my cousin,
23:23
bro. We have the same last name,
23:24
dog. Ah, it's like I don't know.
23:29
but. Who's your cousin?
23:31
Who's your cousin? Well,
23:33
like, like, because you,
23:34
you said it in Colombia,
23:36
little, little Carlo G used to run around here and like
23:39
she's actually a primas like,
23:40
No, my distant cousin.
23:42
Here we go. Who is it?
23:45
is married to Carlos Vives.
23:50
Yeah, yeah, I'm Fernandez maybe Vicente,
23:54
maybe there's something there.
23:56
I don't know. Vicente Fernandez,
23:58
but you're Dominican. Well,
24:01
guess what, guess what?
24:02
Don't judge me because I relate to Maluma.
24:05
Wait, why his last name is Adidas?
24:08
I thought it was Maluma baby.
24:10
No, but what's his real name?
24:11
Maluma Arias? He's from his mom's side.
24:13
What's his real name again?
24:19
I mean we have the same last name in his mom's side
24:21
and Adias is not a very common last name in it's
24:26
It's everywhere, but if you're Dominican Colombians,
24:29
I feel like I fit in with y'all.
24:31
Let's see who's got some cousins up in here.
24:35
Cavino. It's kind of like saying that my grandfather was Hernan
24:37
Cortez LOL. It's like,
24:39
yeah, exactly. It's kinda also Cavino Cortez,
24:41
Kevin Cortez, we got your name now.
24:43
We're gonna find you anyways,
24:45
pull it, pull it up,
24:46
Jamie. That's the guy from Rogan,
24:48
right? Jamie, Jamie,
24:51
Ah man. Hugo said my cousin is a taquero that once
24:56
fed Vicente Fernandez's cousin.
24:58
That's what I'm saying is that legit?
24:58
Yo, I want shake her hand.
24:58
I might be related to him.
25:03
Fernandez. Clipper Carlos said,
25:05
does he come to the carne asada?
25:07
Who Checo actually, I was at a restaurant once and Checo
25:10
was like a couple tables down from us.
25:11
prima, but you know,
25:12
then, yeah, no I told we couldn't talk to him
25:19
that's a show, I believe,
25:21
cool. Do we have anything plugged at the ancestor?
25:26
you guys need to stay on because we have a very important
25:29
interview that is live now.
25:35
Our very own Daniela Salazar,
25:38
she interviewed Senator Alex Padilla.
25:42
That's right. but I always just have to watch the interview
25:46
so we asked some very,
25:48
very powerful questions and I think a lot of everybody wants to
25:53
stay tuned. So don't go anywhere,
25:55
keep watching and we'll see you guys on Friday 12 p.m. PT
25:57
on IG Live. Alright,
25:59
bye y'all stay safe.
26:00
Enjoy. Familia me too today we are welcoming Senator Alex Padilla
26:05
Senator, thank you so much for your time.
26:08
Daniela, for giving me this opportunity and,
26:10
and. To be able to speak directly to the audience.
26:14
So let's jump right into it.
26:15
Following your public confrontation with Christi Nam at the press briefing,
26:19
can you speak to what authority you have as a senator to
26:22
inspect ICE detention facilities and how do you plan to ensure detainees
26:27
are treated with dignity and due process?
26:29
Yeah, no, that's a great question.
26:31
It speaks to why I was actually there because after months and
26:36
months of trying to get information from.
26:39
the secretary from the department overall from the administration in
26:42
general about how and why they're going about immigration enforcement the way
26:49
I was able to at least secure a briefing from the Department
26:54
so I was in the federal building in West Los Angeles last
26:57
week for a scheduled briefing when I caught wind of a press
27:01
conference happening. Just down the hall,
27:05
my escort to secure building,
27:07
a National Guardsman, an FBI agent to,
27:10
if we can go listen in,
27:11
they escorted me to the press briefing room and I was listening
27:14
when I had the audacity to ask a question.
27:17
And despite how they treated me,
27:18
we're gonna keep asking questions,
27:20
we're gonna keep demanding answers,
27:24
but it's not just me,
27:25
right? I have a colleague in Senator Adam Schiff,
27:28
California delegation and, and others from around the country that we
27:32
coordinate with and so there have been visits to the.
27:35
Detention centers, there's,
27:37
you know, briefings and secure settings and everything in between because
27:41
what this administration is doing is unconscionable.
27:46
you know, you guys have had the conversations,
27:47
if all they were doing is what they say they're doing targeting
27:50
only violent criminals, that'd be a very different discussion.
27:54
But we've heard anecdotally of so many migrants who happen to
27:58
be undocumented but are otherwise law abiding,
28:01
hardworking taxpaying members of our community that are being victimized,
28:06
that are being terrorized,
28:08
that's not right and so we're gonna keep pressing until we
28:12
get changes. And just like the unlawful treatment you endured last
28:16
week yesterday, mayoral candidate Brad Lander was apprehended after trying to
28:21
intervene at an immigration hearing.
28:23
What can Congress do to stand up to an administration that's trying
28:26
to intimidate those who are defending their communities,
28:29
whether it's a seated member of the government,
28:32
an elected official or a citizen that's exercising their First Amendment rights
28:38
at a minimum, we got to keep calling it out and
28:40
shedding light on what's happening here because it is an abuse of
28:43
power that we're seeing from the president on an ongoing basis every
28:47
day more and more extreme.
28:49
Number 2, keep asking people to not cower down,
28:54
That's what Donald Trump wants.
28:55
We got to keep speaking up.
28:56
We got to be demonstrating.
28:58
We got to keep peacefully protesting.
29:00
To, to call out the situation for what it is all
29:03
in the hopes of getting some action from our Republican colleagues in
29:08
Congress. Look, the last I checked and we learned this
29:11
in government class in high school,
29:13
Congress is a co-equal branch of government and right now they're a
29:17
Republican majority both in the House and the Senate.
29:20
You know, continues to give the administration of pretty much everything
29:24
that they want since the beginning of this term.
29:28
We need Republicans to stand up for due process.
29:31
We need Republicans to stand up for the Constitution.
29:35
We need the Republicans to also join us in standing up for
29:39
justice. There's frequent political rhetoric about immigrants doing it the right
29:45
way, as you mentioned,
29:47
we've seen our communities being ripped apart.
29:49
ICE is detaining people at court dates and immigration checks.
29:54
What can be done to end these contradictory and harmful enforcement tactics
29:59
again, the law is the law,
30:00
but the way each administration chooses their policy to enforce the law
30:04
has been different, right,
30:06
from Trump back to Biden to Trump one to,
30:09
you know, Obama to Bush,
30:12
That there's a smart way to do it,
30:14
and then there's the unfair,
30:16
unjust, inhumane way that this administration is doing it,
30:20
calling out the hypocrisy,
30:23
and I won't get into the hypocrisy of calling in the National
30:25
Guard in Los Angeles versus what happened on January 6,
30:28
2021. That can be a whole other segment or episode
30:32
here. But the hypocrisy of them saying all these immigrants are
30:37
are threats to national.
30:38
Security, they're dangerous,
30:39
then why are they going after immigrants in schools,
30:45
in houses of worship,
30:48
Republican colleagues wake up to the reality of what's going on and
30:52
not the Trump rhetoric.
30:54
If this was only targeting violent criminals,
30:57
that would be one thing,
30:58
but that's not what's happening here.
31:00
More than 90% of migrants,
31:02
more than 90%. That have been detained by ICE going back
31:05
to October have no serious criminal conviction.
31:09
That's a data point,
31:11
that's evidence, it's facts is just now being released.
31:14
So what we've been suspecting for a long time,
31:17
we now know to be true,
31:19
and we hope that translates into hopefully a change of policy,
31:22
if not actually a change in the law.
31:26
Trump has ordered ICE operations to increase in democratic cities.
31:31
I mean, California is historically a democratic state.
31:34
Is California still a sanctuary state at this point?
31:38
So California is still a sanctuary state because state law does not
31:42
change, and let's be clear on what that is or what
31:44
that isn't. All the sanctuary law means at a city level
31:48
or at a state level is,
31:50
look, we're not going to commit state and local resources to
31:53
do the federal government's job.
31:54
It's the job of the federal government to enforce federal law,
31:58
and we got to check them on how they're doing
32:00
it to protect due process and other fundamental rights,
32:04
but You know, whether it's state law enforcement resources,
32:07
local law enforcement resources.
32:09
They're not the immigration officers,
32:11
they're in charge of local public safety.
32:14
We're not going to do the federal job for them,
32:17
to your point, what Donald Trump is doing is saying the
32:20
quiet part out loud.
32:21
We've known that this is nothing but a pure partisan political attack
32:27
on Democrats or cities and states that like democratic leaders.
32:34
that should be a wake up call again to our
32:36
Republican colleagues. Is this a president?
32:38
That they're comfortable setting.
32:40
Imagine if a Democratic president were making these threats,
32:43
they would be up in arms,
32:47
challenging it, questioning it,
32:48
demanding a change,,
32:51
but it all speaks to why I had to speak up at
32:55
that press conference last week.
32:56
When you hear the Department of Homeland Security suggest that it's the
33:00
mission of the administration and the Marines.
33:04
To liberate Los Angeles from the governor and from the mayor,
33:10
that is dangerous territory since when is it the job of a
33:14
president or an administration to decide which governors and which mayors that
33:19
the people elected get to lead their cities,
33:22
constitutional crisis.
33:24
Beyond just in the making,
33:26
it's time for the people to wake up.
33:29
Let's hope the demonstrations on No King's Day is just the beginning
33:34
but again, my colleagues in Congress on the other side of
33:37
the aisle, it's time for them to start living up to
33:40
their constitutional responsibilities and their oath of office.
33:45
And Senator Padilla, for DACA's 13th anniversary,
33:47
you are calling for permanent protection through the DREAM Act.
33:51
Why do you feel Congress should prioritize passing the DEAM Act?
33:55
Look at the Dreamers have been waiting,
33:58
much longer than they should have for Congress to act
34:00
and provide the protection,
34:02
the legalization, the pathway to citizenship that they so much deserve
34:07
That's not a partisan ask.
34:09
We know that there's bipartisan support amongst the public in general,
34:13
Democrats, Republicans, and Independents.
34:15
Historically, there's been bipartisan support.
34:18
Congress, but in this Trump era of divisiveness and chaos
34:22
and cruelty, we're not seeing the willingness from our Republican
34:26
colleagues right now. There's legal questions about the the status in
34:30
the courts true protection and peace of mind and justice will come
34:36
when Congress acts to protect,
34:39
not just DACA participants but all dreamers.
34:42
Senator Padilla, thank you so much for your time speaking directly
34:46
to our community that's being directly impacted.
34:48
We appreciate the work you're doing for us and thank you.
34:51
Thank you, everybody.
34:52
Please keep the faith and keep organizing.
