00:00
Today I invited our girl Camila Ramon to join us once again
00:06
so please help me welcome her.
00:09
I want to say thank you so much for having me.
00:11
First off. Second off,
00:12
I am obsessed with this setup.
00:14
I'm obsessed with the trend.
00:16
Let's go. Thank you so much.
00:19
This also feels cool.
00:20
I feel kind of diva right now.
00:23
the world is your runway,
00:25
honey. I think you OK.
00:27
Once you're doing it,
00:28
I'm just, it's like I'm sitting down,
00:30
but except my body is moving.
00:33
Camila, how has your background influenced your approach to wellness and
00:36
fitness? Yeah, I think it influenced everything,
00:39
every aspect of my life,
00:40
every aspect and everything that I do,
00:42
and especially in the way that I communicate,
00:45
fitness is not only my passion,
00:46
but it's my profession.
00:48
It also is the reason why I can advocate for our community
00:51
but I also grew up in Miami.
00:53
So it was a part of the culture that I was brought
00:56
up in. Now I get to have conversations about health and
00:59
wellness with everybody from all over the world so I think that's
01:03
really exciting for sure.
01:05
Within our Latino and Hispanic community,
01:08
there are a lot of people who actually skip doctor's appointments.
01:12
What is something that we can do to make it easier to
01:15
schedule those checkups that are super important?
01:18
Your overall health not only encompasses.
01:21
Your physical health, also your mental health and then also your
01:26
medical health. So going to the doctor and being seen is
01:29
very important because even though we feel good,
01:31
that doesn't necessarily mean that there's absolutely nothing going on.
01:34
Early detection and anything really is the best way to go.
01:37
Being aware of what's happening in your body is always the best
01:40
There was a survey conducted by Aflac called Wellness Matters
01:44
It Concluded that Latinos were not taking charge of our health
01:48
and wellness. What's something you have done to kind of facilitate
01:52
those difficult, awkward conversations with our families,
01:56
with their parents? 58% of Hispanic Americans we're actually using urgent
02:02
care as our primary health,
02:05
which means that we're not really developing a relationship with our doctor
02:07
which means that nobody's really like taking care of us.
02:10
And if you have nobody that you have that relationship with,
02:12
and nobody's going to be like,
02:13
hey, you need to go get this,
02:14
this and this checkup,
02:15
and get your regular screenings to make sure that you're
02:17
OK. Yeah, one of the things that actually came out
02:20
of the Affleck Wellness Matters survey that was really great was that
02:23
we're actually leading the way,
02:24
which was very surprising to me in terms of conversations surrounding mental
02:27
health. We want to continue to have these conversations.
02:30
I would say the best way to have these conversations is to
02:33
just have honest and open dialogue about.
02:35
Why it's beneficial, how it has made,
02:38
how you're feeling that if you need support and just know that
02:42
you're in the right place,
02:43
lore please baby you're not loan lamente.
02:44
Camila, what are some quick and easy ways for us busy
02:57
people to, to stay healthy?
02:59
It starts in the morning like.
03:00
You wake up in the morning,
03:01
you have a decision to pick up your phone and scroll,
03:03
doom scroll first thing in the morning.
03:05
I doom scrolled for a little bit instead of getting up we're
03:09
not perfect. We're not perfect,
03:10
girl. The feed's been really good this week.
03:12
I just got to say I've been a little distracted.
03:14
The more that we take care of ourselves,
03:16
the more we elevate our entire community,
03:18
which I think is very important.
03:20
Something alarming that I found in the survey,
03:22
which is honestly the reason why I joined this campaign was that
03:26
Hispanics and Latinos are being diagnosed with cancer at twice the
03:29
rate of the regular population,
03:31
so 40% of these diagnoses are happening in these,
03:37
so regular checkups, but 56% of us Latinos,
03:40
we're delaying these appointments.
03:41
We're not going like I told you 58% of us are going
03:44
to urgent care versus the primary care doctor,
03:47
so we're not going or we're not getting to this information quickly
03:50
and early detection is so crucial and so important.
03:53
So we have to like take control of our health,
03:56
especially as it pertains to these screenings,
03:57
but like just take the hour and go to the doctor's appointment
04:01
and then noque tranquilitos via that's it.
04:09
How, how can we make sure that we lead the way
04:12
in bringing this new way of putting our health first.
04:15
We all just need to know that early detection is key.
04:18
So like call your abuela,
04:19
remind them to go to the doctor,
04:20
make sure that they're getting their checkups,
04:21
that they're not postponing the things that they need.
04:23
Also take care of yourself.
04:24
We have a lot more power like in,
04:25
in the way that we take care of ourselves,
04:27
we motivate the people around us to take care of ourselves,
04:29
right? But you can help your family members and support them
04:32
in ways that maybe you haven't thought about before.
04:34
Maybe your family members have a difficult time communicating.
04:38
The doctor's office or get they get overwhelmed with that kind of
04:40
logistics so maybe just call set up the appointment for them,
04:43
have everything set up for them,
04:44
and then you just like have them go or you can make
04:47
a cute little date out of it like call your Tia,
04:49
I haven't seen you in so long.
04:50
Have you been to the doctor?
04:55
have some drinks, and then,
04:57
or maybe not before the doctor.
04:58
LOL. Some non-alcoholic beverages in my head I was thinking like
05:05
a sparkling water, but then it turned into that,
05:07
right? Mars straight.
05:11
But then we go to the doctor and then we like knock
05:14
two birds with one stone and and and we can move on
05:17
with our lives. That's it's just,
05:18
it's,, we take care of ourselves,
05:20
we take care of our community,
05:21
so continuing to do that would be like what I would recommend
05:24
for sure. You are a woman I do look up to
05:28
who is a fierce woman that has mentored you or greatly inspired
05:32
Honestly, I would have to say my abuela.
05:36
Well as somebody that I have always,
05:37
always, always looked up to Euna luchadora,
05:40
no Novajalerazos like, and the last time that I went to
05:43
Argentina, we, we trained together and she's like still moving
05:47
and grooving and getting it in.
05:49
She has always inspired me because that was beautiful.
05:52
Thank you so much for joining us.
05:54
Just to remind our audience,
05:56
where can we keep up with you and all you do on
05:59
social? I'm Camila Ramo with.
06:01
Three ends at the end on social on Instagram and I'm very
06:05
active on TikTok as well.
06:06
And then if you want to learn more about the survey,
06:08
make sure you check out Aflac.com/S/weness Matters because you can find not
06:13
only like information about everything that we talked about today,
06:16
but in addition to that,
06:17
like you can find resources that can help support and there the
06:20
website has Spanish resources.
06:23
Camila once again. Bye.
