00:00
We are here with Death row records artist Julian Torres.
00:11
Oh oh Yes. So I'm gonna just get into it because
00:19
you've come so far.
00:22
And it's just crazy because right before you know,
00:24
we, we press the record button.
00:27
This man used to sing at my uncle's restaurant like he used
00:32
to sing at my uncle's restaurant.
00:33
So shout out to Guara grill like this.
00:36
Yeah. So it's crazy because it's full circle and I probably
00:40
saw you sing at his restaurant and now you're signed with Death
00:44
Row Records, Snoop Dogg like Snoop's record label.
00:50
How do you feel about that?
00:51
It's an amazing feeling.
00:53
I've been singing since three years old professionally in front of everyone
00:57
So I love singing.
00:59
I love mariachi music.
01:00
I love Nosa cultura.
01:02
I'm very proud and I'm very happy to be able to be
01:07
part of history. Yes,
01:09
I remember when you like played at Dodger Stadium and it was
01:12
like such a beautiful moment of your stadium being a huge place
01:26
a huge moment for me personally because as a
01:30
kid, I was part of the W program and for those
01:33
of you that don't know what the wiw I program is women
01:36
infants and Children program that helps families,
01:39
low income. And we were put into the drawing
01:46
to be able to throw the first pitch at Dodger Stadium and
01:49
we were the family that won.
01:51
So we go to Dodger Stadium.
01:54
I, I'm a little kid playing Little League baseball,
01:57
so I was a pro and I get there and they're like
02:00
OK, you're gonna throw the ball.
02:01
So I threw the ball and I was there on the mound
02:04
and I turned around,
02:05
I turned to my mom like I can,
02:07
I'm going to sing here one day,
02:09
I'm going to sing and,
02:12
and my mom turned around and she's like,
02:13
see me, you're,
02:14
you're, you're gonna,
02:15
you're gonna sing here one day,
02:16
you know, fast forward.
02:18
So many years I get the opportunity to sing at Dodger Stadium
02:21
And was able to be part of so many historic
02:25
moments, the All Star games there at Dodger Stadium,
02:29
the celebrity All Star game national anthems and just performances for Taco
02:33
Tuesday. And I invited my parents for the Mexican Heritage
02:38
Night where I was going to sing both national anthems.
02:41
They were there. And my sister,
02:43
I was so lucky enough that my sister took a video of
02:47
my parents' reaction of me singing there.
02:56
I've never seen my father cry.
02:58
I mean, there have been very limited times that I've
03:02
seen them actually crying.
03:04
So it was a special moment to give them that in life
03:09
Right. They're living and they're experiencing all their sacrifices,
03:13
all their hard work,
03:15
everything they do for us,
03:17
for me, it was,
03:18
it was something that I really wanted to give for sure.
03:22
Like from the moment that you threw the,
03:23
the pitch, the wig like the NP and where you are
03:27
it's like a full circle.
03:29
That's beautiful, beautiful.
03:30
I know that you're also a,
03:33
like an aid, right?
03:35
Because you also have a day job,
03:38
right? So, yes,
03:39
I'm doing both full time as of now.
03:42
I mean, when all of this happened,
03:43
I was already on my 19th year as a special ed para
03:48
professional for Los Angeles Unified School District.
03:52
So I had been doing that for a while and I
03:55
had been giving music lessons,
03:58
like vocal lessons, trumpet lessons and it's really gratifying.
04:01
It's, it's rewarding.
04:03
Yeah, definitely. That's awesome.
04:04
That's so cool. And like,
04:07
do your students, like,
04:09
love you? Like,
04:10
how is your relationship with your students?
04:11
And have you heard,
04:12
like, have they heard you see,
04:14
like, actually perform?
04:15
I keep it on the low.
04:17
I'm sure they're familiar with Snoop Dogg.
04:20
I'm sure they are.
04:21
Do they know, do they know that they don't know what
04:26
here's the thing.
04:27
If I had a teacher and I'm like,
04:29
dad, you're signed with Snoop Dogg Label,
04:31
what the heck? Talk about a secret life.
04:37
You know, I try to keep it on the I get
04:40
it. They might get a little starstruck.
04:45
Well, thank you so much,
04:46
Julian, thank you for coming,
04:51
so proud of you.
04:52
Thank you so much and I can't wait to see you perform
04:56
I will keep looking out for any performances that you have
05:00
It would be so great.
05:01
Definitely, I have some,
05:02
I mean, I'm going to be performing at City Hall for
05:06
Mexican Independence Day. I'm also going to be at the Ford
05:09
Amphitheater on the 14th of September.
05:12
Now I'm going to be singing inside of Disneyland's California Adventure.
05:18
This is so cool.
05:20
Oh my God. Well,
05:21
congratulations with all these opportunities.
05:23
And where can people follow you on social media and keep,
05:26
you know, keep updated with you.
05:27
You could find me on social media.
05:29
Julian Torres underscore official there.
05:32
You could click the link that I have there and you could
05:34
purchase my limited edition vinyl.
05:39
Yes, from that record.
05:40
So you could purchase that there.
05:42
Well, before we let you go for real,
05:45
can you teach me how to do a GRITO?
05:47
Because I suck at it hard,
05:50
like heavy. Well,
05:50
it just comes within right when you do a GRITO.
05:54
But the easiest way I could tell you if you could slide
05:57
your voice up. Ok.
06:01
Right. Yeah, I think so.
06:03
I think that's the easiest way like milita from Coco.
06:06
Yes. Let's see.
06:07
Let's hear you. And I'll try to,
06:09
let's start at, well,
06:10
you have a higher voice than I do.
06:12
So. Eight Z,
06:20
ok.
