Show transcript
00:00
Sister, I gave my own place.
00:01
Like I want to do so much renovating,
00:02
but I don't even know where to start.
00:04
Can I even hammer here?
00:05
Can I hammer there?
00:06
I don't know. But luckily we have the stars of honest
00:09
renovations from Roku joining us today,
00:11
Jessica Alba and Lizzie Matthew.
00:13
Hello. How are you?
00:16
All right. So doing construction can get you hungry.
00:19
What's your go to snack when working on a big project?
00:22
This is actually a real thing.
00:23
This is actually a real thing.
00:25
I, I like,
00:27
I like seaweed snacks.
00:29
And so we always have like teriyaki,
00:32
the gimme teriyaki, seaweed snacks.
00:34
I like, I like black licorice.
00:37
It's, I hate black licorice.
00:41
It's a vibe. I don't know what it is.
00:43
I just the kick out of it.
00:45
It gives me a nice little boost.
00:46
So we always have that.
00:47
What do we always have?
00:48
We always take random.
00:49
Yeah, like almonds and popcorn.
00:52
Yeah, it's another one.
00:54
Yeah. So are you guys both Home Depot Legends?
00:58
I mean, how does that feel?
01:00
Walking to, you know,
01:01
each one? Like a pro?
01:04
Honestly, it gives you a little swag to be honest with
01:07
you. It's like,
01:08
you know, normally we do.
01:09
I used to be intimidated now.
01:12
Now we're like, we're home.
01:14
I mean, we're home and home.
01:16
You know, I think once you get past like the lumber
01:19
aisle, you're good to go.
01:20
You know, we never there at the,
01:24
I just can't do lumber.
01:25
I'm not picking out lumber.
01:27
That's where I draw the point where we do the thing on
01:30
the bathroom aisle, you know,
01:32
sinks and faucets, you know,
01:34
lighting windows. That's where we are.
01:36
That's our sweet spot.
01:37
And what's your favorite part of seeing a family's reaction to their
01:40
newly renovated space? I bet that's amazing.
01:44
I think they usually could never have envisioned or imagined their space
01:51
looking like that. And,
01:54
and so a lot of them,
01:55
they're like, is this our house or is this room like
01:58
they're like what? And so just you see their brain glitch
02:03
a little bit like what this,
02:05
this is our space.
02:07
And that's always fun to see and a lot of times
02:10
they have an idea of what rooms we're doing.
02:13
They, they seem like they empty it out,
02:15
but normally we do add like one extra surprise in there.
02:19
And I think that's the cool part when they,
02:21
when there's a space that they didn't expect,
02:24
that's when it's like that you see,
02:26
you know, a little bit of a guess.
02:29
That's cool. I also wanted to ask,
02:31
I know you guys are entrepreneurs,
02:32
you guys have your own families.
02:34
how do you balance,
02:36
you know, work and family day by day.
02:39
Yeah, I mean,
02:40
you just kind of have to take know that you can't do
02:44
everything and be everything to everyone all at once and there's some
02:48
give and take and sometimes your family needs a little more of
02:51
you. Your kids might need a little more of you some
02:54
days and other days your work needs a little more of you
02:57
And so you just have to kind of flow with it
02:59
and not get too bogged down.
03:02
And also I think we both threw out this idea that
03:05
we need to be perfect a long time ago.
03:08
And I think society sometimes makes us feel like everyone needs
03:13
to be 100 in every aspect of your life all the time
03:16
and it's just not realistic.
03:18
So giving ourselves the grace to kind of like some days the
03:22
house is going to be a hot mess,
03:23
like some days I'm going to have a short temper,
03:25
like some days we're just,
03:27
you know, it's going to be really hard to get out
03:29
the bed and we're just going to be in our pajamas this
03:31
week and that's ok,
03:33
man. Absolutely. Do you guys both live in L A
03:37
and I know Jessica,
03:38
you're Mexican. What's your favorite Mexican food in the city?
03:43
Fritas on South Beverly Drive.
03:46
The older one has incredible pozole.
03:49
Like I would say the chicken pozole,
03:51
it's clean, it's yummy,
03:53
it's homemade. The broth is amazing.
03:56
Like, that's something that we love,
04:00
in the family that we get often.
04:03
But also, like,
04:03
I just like making tacos at home and we like roasted,
04:09
you know, we roasted chicken,
04:10
take all of all the stuff,
04:13
you know, all the meat off the bone and then put
04:15
it in a sauce and then just make tacos at home.
04:18
And that's my kids' favorite.
04:20
That's like their favorite.
04:20
And then also Eggy tacos in the morning,
04:22
that's like classic. But I think because we live in southern
04:26
California and we can get it anywhere.
04:28
That's the, there's also 1986 1986 tacos,
04:32
but also taco trucks like take it back like let's just do
04:35
taco trucks where it's like super like people are getting in there
04:38
and you're getting all this sort of things.
04:39
I remember I went to one taco truck and they have like
04:41
everything like every single thing and tacos.
04:44
Por so good, so good down in Santa Monica,
04:48
like that area. I also rate certain Mexican restaurants based off
04:51
of their salsa and their chips.
04:54
That's where I'm like,
04:55
you're either legit or you suck.
04:58
And so I'm going to gravitate towards good ones with amazing salsas
05:03
and amazing chips too.
05:04
That's the, that's the first test the salsa chips and then
05:09
bring the beans in and then,
05:12
yeah, I agree.
05:14
I agree. Amazing.
05:15
Thank you. So much for your time and guys don't forget
05:18
to check out season two of honest renovations on Roku August 23rd
05:22
Thank you guys.
05:24
Thank you. Bye.
