Joining us today is Camila Ramon AKI.
00:02
Our favorite fitness instructor.
00:07
Hi, guys. Thanks for having me.
00:09
I'm so excited to be here.
00:10
We're happy to have you.
00:12
Ok. So we love your teaching in Spanish versus teaching in
00:16
English videos. But I have to ask like which language wins
00:22
It, it's so tough because I know those videos show
00:26
something very specific and I know that my most hyped moments are
00:30
probably in Spanglish, but both my English classes and my Spanish
00:36
classes are equally as hype.
00:38
You guys. I know it doesn't look that way,
00:40
but there are different ways that I express myself in Spanish that
00:44
are just, you can't translate that to English.
00:46
Like sometimes I have like mantras of the day where I'll say
00:49
them in like Spanish.
00:50
And then I'm like,
00:50
well in English it means stay up,
00:54
right? Like you can't,
00:56
there's no way to translate it.
00:58
I wouldn't say any is better.
01:00
They're just so different in their beautiful,
01:03
amazing ways and what classes are the better ones and which crowd
01:07
brings the most energy,
01:09
the crowd that brings the most energy.
01:11
I have to say the Latinos for sure.
01:13
Hands down when we have Spanish member weekends where I'm teaching in
01:18
Espanol and everybody's vibing out and then we get this Bachata Merengue
01:22
Cumbia track and everybody pops off.
01:25
You can hear them from the hallway.
01:26
You can hear them from the streets.
01:28
They're like Camila, your people have arrived.
01:29
They are here and I'm like,
01:32
literally, no, no people,
01:33
people will come in and be like your people are here and
01:36
it's wild and I love it and then they'll close the door
01:38
immediately and I'm like,
01:39
OK, yeah, I'll go off mafia.
01:41
But there are people that are also extremely hyped that I want
01:45
to send love to because I know there's somebody that's going to
01:47
be watching this at home and be like,
01:49
Camila show up with energy all the time for all of your
01:52
time. And I just want to say that I see you
01:54
and I respect you.
01:55
Well, Seor do Senora attend your classes too?
01:59
100%. The Senora are the most hype ones,
02:02
especially when I'm like,
02:04
don't tell me. So the Senora are the first ones that
02:06
are like, I love it.
02:09
They embrace it as a fitness instructor.
02:12
How do you create body positivity and help people feel confident in
02:16
all areas of the gym?
02:17
I know with me like I get intimidated by like bodybuilding and
02:21
like weightlifting that I like,
02:23
OK, I'm gonna go on the Stairmaster or just,
02:26
you know, do the elliptical.
02:28
Like I stay with those machines.
02:30
But like, how do you,
02:31
you know, build that positivity and going around for me.
02:33
A lot of the confidence building comes from me just showing up
02:36
as I am. I'm a very silly human being and the
02:39
way that I show up in these classes is very,
02:41
in a very silly way.
02:43
And I think that really opens the door for people to have
02:45
fun. And then in addition to that just having conversations about
02:48
the beauty of being strong forte to be for,
02:54
for the rest of your life because it's something that we're doing
02:56
forever, right? I'm always lifting weights and I always communicate
02:59
that extremely in an extremely important fashion because I do believe that
03:04
strength training is like something that we all should be doing.
03:07
And historically, as a Latina and having conversations with other Latinas
03:13
I have noticed that they are very intimidated to step into
03:15
the weight section of gym,
03:17
particularly because it's dominated by Latino men.
03:20
And in Latino America,
03:22
it's even less welcoming than it is in the United States.
03:26
So we're out here trying to break barriers.
03:28
We're out here trying to empower people to show up in these
03:30
spaces where they feel like they don't belong because everybody belongs,
03:34
lifting weights, everybody belongs,
03:36
moving and celebrating what their bodies can do.
03:39
And Camila, you teach a lot of fun classes like,
03:42
you know, you work with artists like fade and T pain
03:45
Do you have a favorite memory of these like,
03:47
you know, classes that you've done with any celebrities or just
03:50
overall the themes or anything like that.
03:52
Besides the entire classes as a 305 raise girl T Pain Ride
04:01
was one of the highlights of my life.
04:05
T Pain if you are in the building,
04:07
come on, we need to see you on stage,
04:09
baby. We need to see you to Pala studio.
04:19
I'm a hype girl.
04:20
I love hyping people up in the fade class.
04:22
We did like a Freon Nitro moment where I did an outfit
04:26
change. We had like smoke come out in the studio,
04:28
the lights changed. They were all green and glow in the
04:31
dark and I put on his neon green vest and these glasses
04:36
but I was riding a bike and the glasses were bouncing
04:38
up and down in my face and I was like,
04:40
I look so Ridic right now,
04:42
but I don't care.
04:43
I was like, I'm going in right now doing everything that
04:46
I can for this class to be as hype as possible for
04:50
fo. That's really,
04:52
really cool. And what's the best music to work out to
04:55
Like, what do you think?
04:56
Do you have a favorite song?
04:58
Well, I've been ever since I read that like reggaeton music
05:01
stimulates the brain more than any other genre music.
05:04
I've just been spreading that information,
05:08
just spreading that information to everyone.
05:09
I know my first ever class Merengue ride that I taught was
05:14
at Peloton. And that's my favorite class to teach.
05:17
You're just out the seat the whole time.
05:19
They're so tough dude.
05:21
I know. How do you stay in your seat with the
05:23
vibes like that? You know,
05:25
you can't blame me.
05:28
Blame Benito, blame Santa Rosa.
05:32
Blame the class has to keep going.
05:37
I know we're over.
05:38
But, and more on that,
05:42
like how have you made space for Latinos in a predominantly white
05:45
space? I think that I was extremely lucky to have been
05:50
chosen by Peloton to really lead this effort and grow this
05:55
space. There's no other fitness platform doing what Peloton is doing
06:00
for the Latin community.
06:02
And for me, I think the most important thing is,
06:04
is growing this program as much as possible right now.
06:08
So focusing on building the space and growing the community and building
06:14
awareness since I started,
06:16
I've gotten so many messages of fellow trainers in the space that
06:20
have mentioned to me that they have now like embrace their culture
06:25
and who they are a little bit more and are starting to
06:27
teach more reggaeton forward classes like Latin music forward classes.
06:31
And that makes me so happy.
06:32
And so the only thing that I can do is continue to
06:35
work as hard as possible.
06:36
Like a true, the true immigrant that I am put my
06:41
best foot forward and,
06:42
and create spaces and opportunities for others to come.
06:45
Thank you so much Camila.
06:47
We appreciate having you on and,
06:49
and going over, you know what you do and when people
06:53
find you and follow you.
06:55
Yeah. So I'm Camila Ramon with three Ns and then you
06:58
can actually come hang out with me and EOL on the Paon
07:02
App. I teach,
07:03
cycling. I teach running,
07:05
I teach walking, I teach hiking and I teach now dance
07:08
cardio so we can shake those Ns together.
07:11
OK? And I do scream at you in Spanish more than
07:14
I do in English.
07:16
You know what I think you're inspiring me to get a peloton
07:20
like for sure.
07:21
Yeah. Thank you.
07:24
Take care. Bye.
