So we're here with the Comadre Marcela Gomez and her mom,
00:06
Margarita la la fa la Mera Mera and their candles from Oco
00:14
Madre candles. I'm,
00:16
you know Mio Madra.
00:17
I'm a huge fan.
00:19
They're my favorite, they're my favorite candles of all time.
00:23
Can you tell us how you,
00:24
how you got into candle making?
00:26
Well, I'm actually a nurse turn candle make.
00:29
Yeah, I turned candle maker.
00:31
This is a form of therapy because anybody who's in health care
00:34
knows it's serious and I needed something to turn it off and
00:39
I learned how to make candles.
00:41
And I never ever thought that I would end up having a
00:46
candle shop. I didn't intend for it to happen.
00:49
It just happened. What inspired you though?
00:51
Because these are very unique candles.
00:54
Really? Yes. It started as a joke like,
00:56
hey, why don't you make a Horchata candle or why don't
00:59
you make this type of candle?
01:00
And there was nothing like this on the market besides the traditional
01:03
vela. When I started.
01:04
As a matter of fact,
01:05
people will make fun of me.
01:06
I remember in the comments.
01:07
Yes, I remember I have a Pinata candle.
01:09
And someone said, what is the smell like cardboard and glue
01:14
but you know,
01:15
mom kept pushing me.
01:17
She says, why don't you try to sell a candle?
01:19
And, and the rest is history.
01:22
You know Nique Dijo de de la Bueno.
01:26
Porque. No, Novia Candela Latinas.
01:30
Ie era como una la preas in Presario and Latinas.
01:35
I paralia iso. Hm.
01:40
And I love the like the candle.
01:42
The, the smells,
01:44
the scents. Can you tell us about your favorite scents?
01:46
They're all my favorite.
01:48
I mean they're all like my kids.
01:49
Each one, each one I have to think of the
01:52
the aroma or bring it.
01:54
I have to bring it to life.
01:55
So they're all like my kids.
01:56
But one of my favorites is Patron to be right now is
02:00
Patron. Why is that?
02:02
because my mom and I had fun bringing it to life
02:04
like designing it. This is my mom.
02:08
The aroma is me and,
02:10
and I played with it and,
02:12
and she tells me I,
02:13
I love the fact that she's not a yes person.
02:16
She'll tell me. Oh no,
02:17
still no Rico Ao Mojado.
02:20
And yo you need someone to tell you no,
02:25
the truth. And but this one turned out nice.
02:29
This one dude, Questa Loca.
02:36
So let me see if it really smells like it.
02:42
Oh My Comadre. How did you do this magic?
02:46
Like I do not understand how someone can make a candle that
02:50
smells like sopa Maruchan like legit.
02:53
This smells like the freaking sopa.
02:55
When you take it out of my,
02:56
show them the spices though.
02:57
In the noodle, there's literally spices in the noodles and the
03:00
noodles are not noodles.
03:01
They're wax. This is crazy.
03:05
How do you make these smells happen?
03:08
And how long does it take?
03:09
I think I'm a horrible cook.
03:11
And candle making is very simple.
03:13
It's like cooking. You melt the wax and you need a
03:16
wick. But what makes you different is the mixing of the
03:20
oils and I don't know,
03:23
I have a very good sense of smell and,
03:25
and I can mix them and I think that's my secret
03:30
and I'm having fun with it.
03:31
The moment I stop having fun with it,
03:33
I'm going to stop.
03:34
And you said this was therapy.
03:37
How hard was it?
03:40
A Margarita? How hard was it to see both of your
03:44
family members fighting cancer?
03:46
Because I know you had breast cancer,
03:47
Marcela. And I know your dad had cancer,
03:50
check your boobs guys,
03:51
check them because that's what saved my life.
03:55
They caught it at stage one.
03:56
And I think that's,
03:57
that was the key to me being in remission.
04:00
But my mom had it the hardest because my dad was stage
04:04
four. he had stage four cancer and we both had cancer
04:08
during COVID which was we go to chemo together.
04:11
Yes, we had the same nurse.
04:12
I was getting chemo dad was getting immunotherapy.
04:16
Dad is fine. We're both in remission.
04:18
So but mom here Lafita that,
04:22
that was hard for you.
04:23
Mom. I know.
04:25
See Tapa Cuatro Leo quil de Tres says me de vida Pero
04:36
