00:00
In spite of all the obstacles and everything I did achieve
00:04
enough of a, a degree of success that um I'm gonna be around
00:11
Folks are gonna turn on the late show and speed is gonna be on
00:25
Let's begin the way we do with all of these interviews with
00:27
your name and, and nationality.
00:29
I am Carlos Enrique Carrasco Mandeville.
00:34
You can't be Latino and not have four names, you know, and I'm
00:39
from Panama at uh at, at, at what age Carlos did you come to the
00:44
Around age 20 might have been 21 2021 prior to coming.
00:52
Did you ever envision yourself leaving Panama for the US?
00:56
Well, what happened is that I got exposed to American culture
01:00
down there because when I was growing up, um the, the US was
01:04
a big presence there.
01:05
The, the United States has been a presence in Panama, like
01:08
really a presence since the California gold rush.
01:12
A lot of people don't realize this but the California gold
01:15
rush happened through Panama because it was a lot easier then
01:20
to steam down from the east coast, go overland in Panama.
01:23
Panama's only 38 miles wide and then steam up to San Francisco
01:28
to go do the gold rush.
01:30
So in that traffic, it was kind of like the first time that Americans
01:34
really started to uh establish a presence there.
